LCL weight or measure

Compare cargo volume with gross metric tonnes to find your LCL billing basis.

Your cargo

Uses 1 m³ or 1 metric tonne (1,000 kg), whichever is greater. Minimum defaults to 0 (none applied); enter your quoted minimum, such as 1 RT.

Use the outer packed dimensions, including pallets when applicable. All rows use the selected unit; changing units converts your entries.

The formula, in plain sight.

Volume m³ = Σ(length m × width m × height m × quantity)
Weight tonnes = total gross kg ÷ 1,000
Raw W/M = max(volume m³, weight tonnes)
Billable W/M = max(raw W/M, quoted minimum)

On the 1:1 basis used here, one revenue ton (RT) represents one cubic meter or one metric tonne, whichever produces the larger billing quantity. It is not a measurement of physical weight alone.

A quick example

10 cartons of 60 × 40 × 50 cm occupy 1.200 m³. At a total gross weight of 800 kg, the weight basis is 0.800 tonnes. Raw W/M is therefore 1.200 RT. A 1 RT minimum would not change this result.

Use the basis in your quote

This tool uses the common ocean LCL 1 m³ : 1,000 kg convention. Origin, destination and other charges may use different density ratios or minimums. Carrier rounding, non-stackable cargo and special handling are excluded. Confirm each charge’s basis with your forwarder.

To estimate a charge quoted per RT, multiply the billable W/M by that rate. This does not include other charges or produce an all-in freight quote.
